Our Story
Inukshuk are figures made of stone, traditionally erected by the Inuit people to mark high points in the land, identify good hunting areas, warn of danger and to guide a safe passage home. The word “inukshuk” means “in the likeness of a human.”
The name was chosen for many reasons. The first is that an Inukshuk is a stone person - as our founder’s last name is Stoneman, it is a play on that. Secondly, our founder, Alison, spent some time in the Canadian Arctic as a young woman and was enchanted by the north, it’s people and their traditions. Lastly, the symbolism of the Inukshuk is that of guidance, trust, leadership, and cooperation. We take our cue from those qualities when we assist our clients.
The logo was created as a symbol of love. Our founder’s husband, Jim Butticci, gifted her with a hand-carved stone in the shape of an Inukshuk made by a local artist when she first registered her business name. Unfortunately, this beloved gift broke into several pieces. To keep the gift front and center, Alison had the graphic designer include it in the logo created for Inukshuk Enterprises Inc.
